One of the most common problems with GE electric built in ovens is the error code “F7″ shown on the display. I’ve seen it many times before and today I had a service call for the same problem again. The error code “F7” will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or “clock” senses one or more buttons on the control panel stuck. It could be displayed in any mode: “cook”, “clean” or even more often in the “time of the day” mode. In order to fix it, the control panel has to be replaced. This is a very simple job and you will need just a 1/4″ nut driver and a Phillips screwdriver.
To get the right replacement part just click on the link AppliancePartsPros then type the model number of your oven (it is located at the bottom left corner on the door frame of the lower oven) in the search box, click on the “search” button and in the new window type the word ”control panel” in the “search by keyword” box and click the “search” button.
Always turn off the circuit breaker first.
Open the oven door (if you have a double oven, it should be the upper one) and remove three screws (on some models just two on corners) from the bottom of the control panel. If the control panel on your oven is made of stainless steel, then you have to pull the oven out of the cabinet for about 2″ to 3″ to get better access. Pull the control panel forward and up to remove the tabs on the top of the frame, out of the holes in the end caps. Pull the control panel out and turn it about 90° toward yourself (the face of the control panel down). Unplug the control panel ribbon from the ERC. Remove four screws holding the ERC to the control panel. On some models you also have to remove the screw which attaches the ground wire to the control panel. Let the ERC hang on its wires, remove the old control panel and replace it with the new one. On some models before you do it, you have to remove the end caps and the bottom shield from the old control panel and install them on the new one. Do not forget to plug the new control panel ribbon into the ERS slot. Attach the new control panel to the oven and turn the circuit breaker on. Set the time of the day and you are back in business.

Overloading of the washer machine usually causes a lot of problems, even if they are not visible at first glance. Just a few of the problems: clothes not washed properly which means wasting of your time and money (detergent, water, electricity); damage to delicates; excessive wear to the clothes and to the washer, etc. It is very easy to prevent all these hassle. I will give you a few suggestions on using your washer in the most efficient way with the maximum use of its capacity.
Mix large and small items to improve the wash quality and a balance of the load. If your clothes do not have a lot of soil, set the main wash for less than 10 minutes. Use about 1/2 to 3/4 of the detergent measuring spoon. Use the largest possible load (see bellow) to decrease the total amount of washes (less water, less energy, less detergent). For these suggested full-sized loads, set the LOAD SIZE selector to the highest load size setting.

GE also makes appliances under names “Hotpoint” and “RCA”. Knowing the age of your appliance can help you find out the manufacturer warranty and decide if it’s worth the repair.
The date code is in the letters on your serial number.
Date codes – First letter is the month and the second letter is the year.
A = January D = February F = March G = April H = May L = June M = July R = August S = Sept. T = Oct. V = Nov. Z = Dec.
G = 1980 & 1992 H = 1981 & 1993 L = 1982 & 1994 M = 1983 & 1995 R = 1984 & 1996 S = 1985 & 1997 T = 1986 & 1998 V = 1987 & 1999 Z = 1988 & 2000 A = 1989 & 2001 D = 1990 & 2002 F= 2003 G = 2004 H =2005. The same letter code will be used and repeated in a twelve year cycle.
Example serial number: FR221102
FR221102 – F = month – March
FR221102 – R = year 1984 or 1996
FR was made in March 1996 or in March 1984

The error code “F2” will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or “clock” senses a runaway heat condition during the “cook” or the “clean” modes. It could be caused by the oven temperature sensor, by the ERC or by the wire harness between the oven temperature sensor and the ERC. If the error code “F2” is displayed in the “cook” or “clean” modes only, then the problem is a bad oven temperature sensor or its wire harness. If the error code “F2” is displayed in the time of the day mode also, then most likely a problem is the bad ERC. The access to the oven temperature sensor plug and the wires is from the back only. You have to pull the oven out of the wall (if it’s free standing) or remove it from the cabinet (if it’s built in). Disconnect the power and remove the rear cover. Check the resistance across the oven temperature sensor. It is supposed to be about 1100 Ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is incorrect, the oven temperature sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. If not, check all the wires from the oven temperature sensor to the ERC. If it is not the sensor and wires, you have to replace the ERC.
To get the right replacement part just click on the link AppliancePartsPros, then type the model number of your oven in the search box, click on the “search” button and in the new window type the word ”sensor” or the word “clock” in the “search by keyword” box and click the “search” button.

The error code “F4” will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or “clock” determines an open oven temperature sensor circuit during the “cook” (bake or broil) mode. The “F4” message will not be displayed in the time of day mode. The cause of the problem is a bad oven temperature sensor or its wire harness. The access to the oven temperature sensor plug and the wires is from the back only. You have to pull the oven out of the wall (if it’s free standing) or remove it from the cabinet (if it’s built in). If it happened, most likely the problem is a clogged up vent outside the dryer. Before you take any action, disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and run a regular load whith the hose disconnected. If the clothes are dry at the end of the cycle, no doubt the problem is a clogged up vent. If you leave it untreated, your utility bill will go much higher, you have to run the dryer 2 or 3 times for the same load, subjecting your clothes to unneeded wear and tear and the most dangerous, overheating of the dryer can lead to a dryer fire (clothes dryers are one of the most leading causes of home fires). To prevent all of these problems the dryer vent has to be cleaned. You have two options: 1)call a company that deals with air ducts and vent cleaning. It will cost you between $90.00 to $120.00 or 2)buy a LintEater kit, part number, DVC202

10 piece rotary dryer vent cleaning system which attaches to a drill and will clean a dryer vent up to 15′ from one end, for less than $30.00 and it will help you many times in the future.

If it happened, most likely the problem is a bad water inlet valve. Unplug the power cord. To get access to the part, you have to remove the cabinet (read “How to remove the cabinet on Whirlpool or Kenmore direct drive washer”). The water inlet valve

is mounted to the rear panel on the right hand side. Remove wires from solenoids (one solenoid at a time) and check it for continuity. If there is no continuity, then the water inlet valve has to be replaced. Very often screens inside the water inlet valve got clogged with water deposits. In that case the water inlet valve has to be replaced too. The part number for the common, two port water inlet valve used on most Whirlpool and Kenmore direct drive washers is 285805
Now you can watch it on the video: How To Replace Washer Water Inlet Valve.

The most common and the most dangerous cause of the flooding in the laundry room is a broken water fill hose for the washer. How to prevent it? First you have to inspect water fill hoses at least every three months. If they are rusted or you found bubbles on the hoses, they have to be replaced right away. Even if you did not find anything suspicious it is recommended by all manufacturers to replace them every five years. There is a difference in length of the hoses (4, 5 or 6 feet) and the materials they are made of. It could be reinforced rubber, part numbers: 4 feet 254, 5 feet 255 and 6 feet 256

or stainless still.

Part numbers: 4 feet BCS112-48WA, 5 feet BCS112-60WA and 6 feet BCS112-72WA.
All braided stainless still hoses are much more reliable and their life time is at least three times longer then the rubbers.
