19% of the time High Voltage Diode

Diode failure on GE Spacemaker ii microwave

After purchasing a tamper-proof bit set, I did the following: -- Removed the metal cover surrounding the unit. -- Immediately discharged any residual charge in capacitor using insulated needle nose pliers. -- Removed metal bridge hold down bracket across top of unit. -- Took a cell phone photo of wiring to the fan assembly. -- Removed wires connecting fan assembly from control board on top of fan assembly. -- Removed fan assembly to gain unencumbered access to diode. -- Removed and replaced diode. -- Reinstalled fan assembly. -- Reconnected wires to fan assembly as per photo paying attention to wire color and location. -- Replaced bridge hold down bracket. -- Replaced cover. -- Plugged in microwave and proved operational by heating a pint of water.

The High Voltage Diode is an OEM Replacement Part that acts as a one-way gate for electrical current on GE microwaves. It allows power to flow in a single direction. This part is critical in regulating the electrical current within the device it is used in. Measuring approximately 3-1/2" in length, this diode features a banded side with a #8 ring terminal and a non-banded side with a 1/4" female quick connect.

Unlike most electrical components, this diode does not read continuity, instead, it reads resistance. It's crucial to note that a functioning diode will only show resistance in one direction. If it exhibits this characteristic, the diode is in good working condition. This diode is compatible with select GE, Hotpoint, and Kenmore models.

12% of the time Door Switch

Door switch shorted out

I ordered a new switch. It was the correct part for my microwave. The service was top notch. I received the part the next day after I ordered it and in a few minutes I had installed it. Very fast service and the right part the first time. Excellent!!! Would recommend them to anyone needing Appliance Parts.

Microwave door switches worn out

I you tubed the repair and ordered the switches. Very good video made the job easy. Turned out to be one of the three switches that was bad allowing the oven to run when door was opened. Fix took approx 20 min. start to finish.

Microwave wouldn't work unless we pushed on the door

Figured it was the door switch. Ordered one from AppliancePartsPros. It arrived in 3 days. Tested the switches (there are three). Bottom one was defective. Replaced it.

Microwave lost heating and turning

Replaced primary door switch. I ordered the part Friday and it came Saturday. Wife's party on Sunday was a success. Could return Walmart spare oven.

Microwave not beating and no turntable

Checked door switches with basic voltage meter....top switch not working... Replace and microwave working. $15 fix instead of $250+

The Microwave Door Switch is an OEM part for GE microwaves, designed to prevent the microwave from operating when the door is open by interrupting the power whenever the door is not securely closed. The door switch is an essential safety feature.

Symptoms of a failing Microwave Door Switch include:

  • The microwave not starting or heating
  • Running when the door is opened
  • Unusual noises when the door is closed

Causes of a bad Microwave Door Switch can result from repeated opening and closing of the door or slamming that can cause the switch to degrade or become misaligned, leading to intermittent or failure.

Replacing a defective microwave door switch is crucial for maintaining the safety, functionality, and efficiency of your GE microwave, ensuring it operates correctly and safely with each use. This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

3% of the time Asm-Magnetron

Not heating and making a loud humming sound

Replaced the diode and magnetron. All parts worked great and Appliance Parts Pros was very helpful with their recommendations and service. Replaced the diode first, which didn't fix the problem. Replacing the Magnetron fixed everything and is as good as new. From what I've researched, if everything is working fine except it's not heating, then it could be the diode. If it's not heating and it's making a loud humming or crackling sound then it's most likely the magnetron. Diode was easy to replace since I didn't have to move the microwave. The magnetron required taking it down and taking the outside shell off, which wasn't a big deal, just time for all the screws. Magnetron was easy to replace after taking the shell off. Saved a ton of money doing this, especially since my microwave is a larger model that is no longer manufactured and I would have been left with a five inch space above my stove to fill in with a new microwave.

Microwave unit had a strange low noise and did not warm anything

Thanks for you guys, Robyn and all of those I don"t know their name. First I got a troubleshooting tech sheet from Robyn. I used that and first, since I did not understand one step, I believed that I have defective High Voltage transformer so I ordered it. While it was coming that step was nagging at me, went back and then understood how they meant it. Also I realized that my Magnetron is defective.I ordered it, Robyn gave me the right part number, I could send back my transformer and I got my credit back since I did not use it. Replaced the Magnetron and voila it worked. So thanks for the technical help, for the right parts, for that I could return the not used part. Everything was smooth and painless. only one thing; my magnetron had a temperature sensor on the heatsink, what was not on the new one, so I had two connector what I did not know where to plug. After some trying and testing, it became clear that they have to be shorted together. The open turned the unit off. Just a note. ThakX Bela

The GE magnetron is an OEM replacement part responsible for generating the microwave energy that heats and cooks your food. Located within the microwave's cooking chamber, typically behind the control panel and connected to the waveguide, the magnetron emits high-frequency microwaves, which are then distributed throughout the cooking cavity. This electromagnetic radiation excites water molecules in the food, causing them to heat up and cook the food quickly and efficiently.

This GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms

  • Failure to heat or uneven heating of food
  • Humming or buzzing noises
  • Tripped circuit breakers when using the microwave

2% of the time Monitor Switch

GE microwave spacemaker xl1400 not heating items (lights working)

Initially ordered the wrong switch replacement, called AppliancePartsPros and spoke with Antonio who helped me re-order correct switch. Checked all three switches and bottom (3rd switch) clicker was not clicking. Received order in 3 days with speedy postage. Popped in new switch and plugged all three switches back in. Fastened door switch plate to microwave and installed panel cover. Plugged in microwave and tested and voila! Excellent assistance from Antonio who was friendly and correctly placed the order. Kept my original switch which will fit in the 2nd switch opening should that fail.

The Monitor Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE microwave ovens. Located internally on the turntable control circuit board, this switch monitors rotation of the turntable during cooking cycles.

Causes of failure involve degradation of the electrical contacts from continuous arcing loads over years of use combined with vibration stresses.

Symptoms of a faulty monitor switch include:

  • The turntable no longer rotates or spinning intermittently
  • Cooking cycles aborting prematurely with error messages
  • Screeching or grinding noises emanating from beneath cavity
  • Visible burnt spots on turntable drive assembly

This genuine GE switch is also compatible with select Hotpoint and RCA models.
