Here are the most common causes for Maytag Refrigerator GB2526LEKS6 "Leaking"

82% of the time Refrigerator Drain Tube

Water leaking from refrigerator ice on bottom of freezer maytag french door refrigerator

I researched online and discovered a lot of folks had the same issue as I did. The cause was sludge build up in the rubber outlet on the tube drain. And the fix was a replacement kit. The repair seemed easy and the part was inexpensive, so I figured "why not?" I will attempt it and if its too complicated, ill hire an appliance repairman to do it. It was really easy, took me about 15 minutes to replace. I unplugged the fridge for a day to let any ice build up melt. So far no ice build up and no leaked from the fridge. As far as buying the part, it was really effortless from this seller, plugged my fridge model number and it told me if its the correct part or not, I received my part the next day. The earned a return customer

Water leaking from front of the freezer

Replaced the old rubber drain with the P-Trap drain tube. Replacing the drain tube is fairly easy. Getting rid of the ice is time consuming. Warm water seems to get the best and fastest results. Make sure the drain is completely free of ice before installing the new drain.

Leaking water on floor out freezer door due to plugged drain hose

Ordered new design drain pipe with p trap. was easy to install . No water on floor so far since repair. I do think Whirlpool should foot the bill for this part. I paid a lot of money for this appliance and it started leaking a few days after warranty expired.

Ice in floor of freezer

After watching YouTube on diagnosing/fixing problem, I ordered the tube-drain. The part showed up in 3 days. I read instructions with part and re-watched video. After a small amount of blood letting from sheet metal and severely cussing college educated engineers that designed the freezer drawer and rails, the repair was complete. I found the rubber grommet to be clogged with a gummy residue just like in video. No more ice. I suspect I saved myself $300 on service call. Melting ice on and under drip tray took the longest amount of time for repair.

Clogged condenser drain resulting in water collecting & freezing in the bottom of the freezer

Removed the old drain & rubber duckbill and replaced it with the new, improved tube-drain. It took longer to remove and replace the back panel to get to the drain than it did to replace the part.

The Refrigerator Drain Tube is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is the tube responsible for draining condensation and any other moisture that collects at the back of the refrigerator compartment. The drain tube guides liquid to the evaporation pan located below the refrigerator to be evaporated.

Symptoms of a bad drain tube include:

  • Water collecting in the back of the refrigerator
  • Musty odors emanating from the refrigerator
  • Water leakage from the bottom of the refrigerator

Causes of a bad drain tube can be blockages from food particles or debris, cracks or leaks that prevent proper drainage, or damage due to impact or kinking of the tube over time.

This OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

3% of the time Drip Pan

Cracked drain pan; water on floor

Followed the video instructions. Removing the fan is quite challenging, and reinstalling the fan at the end fo the repair even more challenging. The bottom of the fan housing has to move away from you and the top towards you to release from its attachment to the drain pan. I think I might have had an easier time if I had reached around the fan housing and pulled the top toward me while pushing the bottom away, working on both left and right attachments together. No guarantees though. By the way, I think I might have been responsible for cracking the drain pan myself by using force to replace the drain tube previously. DO NOT USE ANY SIGNIFICANT FORCE TO DETACH THE BOTTOM OF THE DRAIN TUBE. The drain pipe latches to the drip pan (at the bottom) via a plastic tab. To safely remove the pipe, you can gently depress the tab using a small screw driver. The bottom end of the pipe has a flat side (to your left looking a the the work area from the back of the unit) and the flat side has a small square hole which hooks on the plastic tab. Press your tool gently into this hole to release.

Drip pan broke when I replaced the drip hose on my Maytag refrig

I replaced the rubber drip plug with the new recommended drip hose because the rubber drip plug got tacky and sealed itself and created ice on the freezer floor. When I removed the old drip Shute, it broke the drip pan. I got the new drip pan and simply followed the directions from the video. Hardest part was removing the fan, as you need to use some force but be careful as it is plastic and you need to work it out. Once it was out, the drip pan was a snap to replace. You then need to work the fan unit back into place.

Water on floor during defrost cycle.

Replaced the drip pan. As the video showed, removing and replacing the fan was the most difficult part. The old drip pan was cracked in 3 places.

The plastic drip pan had a large crack in it and leaked water on our kitchen floor

When I first noticed the water on the floor, I temporarily put water proof caulking on the crack to stop the water from leaking. It stopped the leak while I waited for a replacement pan to arrive in the mail from Appliance Parts Pros. As others have stated replacing the pan was fairly easy. The fan housing was the most difficult part of the repair, and it was not all that hard to take out. Just had to angle it a bit and carefully pull it out. Took about 30 minutes to get the job done. Thanks for having the part available! Refrigerator is an Amana about 8 years old.

Pre ordered the part and had a service guy replace the part for us. We highly recommend! Saved us a lot of money.

  • Increased puddling or leaking underneath shelves
  • Stains or corrosion developing on surrounding interior panels
  • The pan no longer fits securely or is sealed in position

This OEM replacement is also compatible with KitchenAid, Maytag, and other refrigerator brands made by Whirlpool.
