Here are the most common causes for Whirlpool Refrigerator GB2FHDXWQ08 "Freezer section too warm"

18% of the time Evaporator Fan Motor

Replaced evaporator fan motor. Because no air was circulating all the cold air stayed on bottom. Looked around and listened. Noticed no air coming out cool vents on refrigerator side and went online to see if I could find the problem. Found the fan in the freezer and it was not working. Ordered part at 11:40am with standard shipping and part was on doorstep by 10:00am the next morning. Local parts store wanted twice as much for the part.

Fridge was warm, but freezer was still cold.

I Googled the problem and many of the results pointed to a bad evaporator fan motor. I went to Appliance Parts Pros because I’ve used their parts and videos in the past with great success on this fridge (drain pipe) and washer. They had the part and a great video on the repair so I was confident I could do the fix. Even with next-day shipping, the fix cost less than $100. The fix itself went very well. I found the coils had iced up when I got the back panel off. Even with the added defrost time, I had everything opened up by the time the part arrived and the fridge was up and running 30 minutes after FedEx came. The only part that gave me trouble was the locking tabs on the motor housing. They took some effort to open and I actually couldn’t get the second one off but was able to slide the motor in anyway.

Noisy refrig

We took off the back panel to investigate where the loud noises were coming from and discovered that it WASN'T the condenser fan motor, but the evaporator fan motor, which must be accessed from the freezer compartment. After viewing the very helpful YouTubes that AppliancePartsPros.com's website provides for the part we needed, we ordered it, received it 4 days later, and using a couple of YouTubes, we removed all the parts needed to allow us access to the evaporator fan motor; took the old one out; installed the new one; and reassembled the freezer compartment. Once we plugged the refrigerator back in, we were pleased to find that our solution fixed the problem. No more noisy refrigerator humming that we previously could hear from other rooms in the house! I'd say it was challenging to repair NOT because of the process, but because of the location of the part that needed to be replaced. We were working on our backs upside down (like a plumber working under a sink) for much of the time. However, I am so proud that we were able to fix it ourselves.

Freezer cool, fridge warm.

I replaced the evaporator coil motor. Found the part on their website easily. Used their repair video. I wish manufacturers would make the parts more accessible. Fan motors need replacing. Why make someone tear apart the whole freezer to do it? But the video went step by step and the replacement fixed the issue. Big thanks to appliancepartspros.com.

Cold freezer, warm refrigerator.

I searched my problem on the site and found a video with step by step instructions with the diagnosis and repair I needed. I ordered the evaporator fan motor through appliancepartspros and watched the video a few more times until I was comfortable doing the job myself. I overnighted the motor and it was here within 36 hours, it took me about 40 minutes to replace. One thing to note is that when you have it apart if you don’t manually defrost the evaporator it may take a day or so for the fridge to get back to normal airflow wise.

The Evaporator Fan Motor is a critical OEM Replacement Part integral to the efficient cooling of your Whirlpool refrigerator. It operates at a power requirement of 115V, 60Hz, and 0.14A, featuring a shaft that measures 1/8" in diameter and 5/8" in length. Positioned at the back of the freezer, this fan motor's primary role is to circulate air over the refrigerator coils. This process enables the conversion of heat into cool air that is then circulated throughout the fresh food compartment.

9% of the time Electronic Control Board

Freezer cold frig warm

Replaced circuit board which solved the problem. Took 15 minutes to figure out how to get to the board and ten minutes to replace it and reinstall everything.

I changed the electronic control panel and the refrigerator is working like new! The part from appliance parts pro got here in less than 24 hours, when using the two day shipping option. The how to video on the appliance parts pro web site was spot on and made it easy to complete the task. I was able to complete the job for less than half the price I was quoted by a Sears tech.

The refrigerator would get warm every couple of weeks when the freezer frosted over

In the end, I replaced the electronic control board. It was an easy fix. Instructions are provided. Just note that you're supposed to crack the board along the fault line to form two boards. The hard part for me was determining that the control board was to blame. I hesitated to replace it because the onboard diagnostics indicated nothing wrong, and replacing it was the most expensive option. The defrost thermostat seemed much more likely, and many instructions on the web (incorrectly) say that the thermostat should close in a cup of ice water. No, the thermostat requires colder temperatures to close; test it in a working freezer. I eventually swapped the control board after seeing a professional tech on YouTube do the same after only seeing the onboard diagnostics pass. And of course the problem only occurred when the freezer frosted over, so every time I'd manually defrost the freezer, everything seemed fine for a couple of weeks. I became very experienced at taking the freezer apart.

Fridge not getting cold but freezer cold and fridge was constantly running

I did some research on the fridge not getting cold but freezer ok. I found a very helpful post that explained how to put the fridge into diagnostic mode and how to run some of the diagnostic tests with the buttons on the fridge display. I determined that the control board was my problem after running several of the self tests. The control board was not allowing the defrost cycle to run properly and it was keeping the compressor on constantly which was freezing the water on the fins and blocking the airflow from the freezer to the fridge.

Refrigerator warm freezer cold.

Google and YouTube search pointed to the problem the fan was ok so I replaced the electronic control board.
