85% of the time Run Capacitor

Freezer & fridge won’t get cold 0

I knew that it could be a anything refrigerant, thermostat & all but thought about how power to the compressor. So I ordered a run capacitor. The chat confirmed that it might be but suggested I get a start relay. I should have listened & saved shipping fee. Replaced both and the compressor started humming as it should, Took me 20 minutes. Thanks guys.

Refrigerator was not cooling.

Thanks to the advice on your website, a new capacitor was ordered and easily installed following your video. Thanks to a less than $40 dollar repair we did not have to spend hundreds to replace the refrigerator! Thank you so much!

Our Whirlpool refrigerator would come on go off and not come on again.

I replaced the capacitor first but still had the same problem. Tried the thermostat second and that fixed the problem. Your repair videos really helped! If I can do this, anyone can. Don't be afraid. Bought repair parts based on your percentage of failures. Thanks again!

Fridge and freezer were not cooling.

Replaced it with the part that was recommended. It was a capacitor. Once I replaced the part and plugged the fridge back into the wall, the fridge kicked on and started working. The fridge got down to the set temperatures. However the fridge cooled for about 18 hours and then stopped working again. I contacted customer service and told them the problem, and they are sending me another part.

Trying to start multiple times before starting. I called a repair person who said there was nothing wrong, but i felt differently

I looked up my model and with the information on troubleshooting, I thought it worth ordering a capacitor. I looked on uTube how to install. My neighbor came over and we took off the panel and replaced the capacitor in 10 minutes!

The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool appliances, designed to provide the necessary electrical charge to start and run the compressor motor. This part attaches to the compressor to aids in maintaining a consistent motor speed and ensuring smooth operation. The run capacitor plays a crucial role in the appliance's electrical system, storing and releasing energy as needed to power the motor.

Causes of a bad Run Capacitor include electrical surges, wear and tear over time, or overheating, which can lead to a failure in providing the necessary start-up energy or maintaining motor speed.

Symptoms of a bad Run Capacitor include:

  • The appliance does not start.
  • The motor shuts off shortly after starting.
  • The appliance is humming but not running.
  • Increased energy consumption.

Replacing a faulty or worn-out run capacitor is essential for restoring the appliance's function and efficiency. This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

9% of the time Electronic Control Board

Freezer cold frig warm

Replaced circuit board which solved the problem. Took 15 minutes to figure out how to get to the board and ten minutes to replace it and reinstall everything.

Maytag refrigerator refrigerator to warm

I changed the electronic control panel and the refrigerator is working like new! The part from appliance parts pro got here in less than 24 hours, when using the two day shipping option. The how to video on the appliance parts pro web site was spot on and made it easy to complete the task. I was able to complete the job for less than half the price I was quoted by a Sears tech.

The refrigerator would get warm every couple of weeks when the freezer frosted over

In the end, I replaced the electronic control board. It was an easy fix. Instructions are provided. Just note that you're supposed to crack the board along the fault line to form two boards. The hard part for me was determining that the control board was to blame. I hesitated to replace it because the onboard diagnostics indicated nothing wrong, and replacing it was the most expensive option. The defrost thermostat seemed much more likely, and many instructions on the web (incorrectly) say that the thermostat should close in a cup of ice water. No, the thermostat requires colder temperatures to close; test it in a working freezer. I eventually swapped the control board after seeing a professional tech on YouTube do the same after only seeing the onboard diagnostics pass. And of course the problem only occurred when the freezer frosted over, so every time I'd manually defrost the freezer, everything seemed fine for a couple of weeks. I became very experienced at taking the freezer apart.

Fridge not getting cold but freezer cold and fridge was constantly running

I did some research on the fridge not getting cold but freezer ok. I found a very helpful post that explained how to put the fridge into diagnostic mode and how to run some of the diagnostic tests with the buttons on the fridge display. I determined that the control board was my problem after running several of the self tests. The control board was not allowing the defrost cycle to run properly and it was keeping the compressor on constantly which was freezing the water on the fins and blocking the airflow from the freezer to the fridge.

Refrigerator warm freezer cold.

Google and YouTube search pointed to the problem the fan was ok so I replaced the electronic control board.

Compressor Start Device

Fridge was making a clicking noise every 3 to 5 minutes and was no longer cooling

Pulled fridge from the wall and noticed the clicking noise was originating from the starter device on the compressor. The compressor was really warm but fridge was no longer cooling. Clicking noise every 3 to 5 minutes. Saw on-line that the clicking noise in that frequency probably indicated the starter. There may have been a way to test the starter with a resistance meter but just crossed my fingers that the starter was in fact the issue and not the capacitor or compressor itself. While I had the refrigerator out from the wall I did a thorough cleaning of under the fridge which was badly needed, vacuumed and blew out the dust from the coils. The new starter is a bit different in shape and size than the original but it did fit. There is a metal retaining wire that holds the starter to the compressor and with the new starter that is smaller, the clip did not retain until I bent the retaining wire to press against the newer model starter. Replacing the starter thankfully did the trick and fridge was up and running again in no time. Very easy to replace this part, only took a few minutes, much longer time spent cleaning out the coils under the fridge which had been on my list to do for a long time. Also, part came next day as always from appliancepartspros.com which is nice.

Control board compressor relay .

You"re sales team worked with me on trouble shooting all the problems. Believe it , Its running great!! Thank you very much for all your'e help. Thank You very much. Chris

Refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling.

Ordered the Capacitor first and then ordered the Start Dev next. My refrigerator was making a clicking noise for a while before going out. Turns out, it was just the Starter for the compressor. Moving the fridge and taking back panel off took more time than changing it.

Refrigerator and freezer simply stopped working.

We first cleaned the coils on the underside and back of the unit, to make sure that wasn't the issue. When the fridge/freezer still would not cool, I entered the symptoms (compressor was running, but only for 3 seconds, and then would click off) into a search engine. After some research discovered the starter relay could be the issue. I removed it, and shook it, but there was no rattle (much of the online tutorials suggest a rattle noise means the starter relay was broken). I ordered the part, swapped it out in like 15 mins, and within a couple of hours we had frozen water in our freezer. Service call to have a technician diagnose would have been $89. Awesome! Thanks AppliancePartsPros.com!

Our kitchenaid refregerator was making a clicking/popping sound and the freezer wasn't fully cooling

Based on the website recommendation, I first replaced the capacitor, but that didn't do the trick. I then ordered and replaced the "Start-Dev"-- and that worked. It was a simple installation. My recommendation: replace both parts at once!
