Here are the most common causes for Whirlpool Refrigerator GB2FHDXWB00 "Fridge too cold"

99% of the time Thermistor Kit

Refrigerator was warm the freezer was ok.

First, researched the problem. Decided it was the thermistor and ordered it from AppliancePartsPros - it arrived in 2 days

Inconsistent temperatures in freezer and refrigerator compartments.

Attempted to fix it by replacing the thermistor in the freezing compartment. The freezer is still staying colder than we'd prefer (hard ice-cream), but refrigerator is staying consistent at the proper temperature.

The freezer gets too cold.

Installation of the new thermistor was super easy with the video instructions. Even a single mom can do it. :

Refrigerator compartment too cold

Refrigerator compartment was slowly dipping below 32 degrees and then freezing food. Replaced the thermistor in the refrigerator compartment with the help of the online video. Piece of cake. Within a couple of hours the thermostat was at 40 degrees, and has held constant. At one point the fridge did get into the the 30's - but I set the freezer temp to 4 degrees (instead of zero) and all is still well. This probably means that I will need to replace the freezer thermistor as well, but after my success in replacing the fridge thermistor, I am almost looking forward to it. Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com, it shouldn't have to cost an arm and a leg to DIY! Love your business! Keep up the good work!

Maytag fridge staying too cold freezing food

I googled the make & model number of the fridge & the problem. Appliance Parts Pros was the 1st listing to appear. It said the Thermistor needed to be replaced, had the correct part & a with video on how to replace it. After a couple more weeks of ruined food I decided to take a chance & order the part. It arrived the next day. I watched the video again, followed the instructions & replaced the thermistor, it took about ten minutes. That was two weeks ago. The temperature is now around 34 degree's, it had been 25, & no freezing vegetables! Thanks Appliance Parts Pros!

The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Damper Control Assembly

This 4 year old refrigerator was making a grinding noise

My wife researched the problem and found the most likely culprit was the part we ordered. It took less than 20 minutes to replace the defective part. The research my wife did, proved to be correct !

Refrigerator damper making loud noises when opening an closing on startup

Ordered a new damper for the refrigerator came with wiring harness attached. I no longer hear the loud noise from the refrigerator on start up. Helps to remove the top shelf for my model.

Over cooling

I had an inactive control pad so had to replace that first. Verified that the temperature sensor was accurately reporting the actual temperature. Had removed the cover over the air damper in the top back of the refrigerator compartment. Noticed that the damper was full open all the time. Replacement was easy. 1) Disconnect power. 2) Pop the air deflector off by prying up on the bottom edge with a flat blade screw driver. 3) Two Phillips head screws come out next to remove the rest of the cover. 4) The styrofoam insulation comes off as one piece by simply pulling on it. 5) Finally, the damper comes out by disconnecting the power connector and then pushing gently on two locking tabs with a flat blade screw driver while pulling straight away from the back of the fridge. 6) The new damper installs by reversing these same steps.

Refrigerator too cold

After researching on your website I ordered the parts that were basically considered to be the most likely reason for problem. Boom, back up and running for less than a service call! Thanks

Noisy motor

Found the part on Appliance Pros, watched a YouTube video, ordered, and replaced in about 5 minutes. No more noise when the refrigerator starts up.

The Damper Control Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is controlled through the thermostat and lets cold air move from the freezer section to the fresh air section of the fridge. The damper control assembly helps maintain the desired temperature and humidity levels in each section, ensuring optimal food preservation.

A faulty damper can be caused by various factors. Over time, continuous use and exposure to temperature changes can lead to wear and tear, resulting in improper airflow or inconsistent temperature control. Mechanical issues, such as a malfunctioning motor, can also contribute to damper assembly problems.

Symptoms of a bad Damper Control Assembly in a Whirlpool refrigerator include uneven cooling between the refrigerator and freezer compartments, improper temperature regulation, or unusual noises coming from the damper assembly. This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.
