20 year old Amana refrigerator (bottom freezer) had erratic temps then compressor quit working. After replacing the defrost timer, the compressor start relay, and the compressor overload device the problem seemed to be resolved. Yet, after a couple of days the compressor stopped, although the condenser and evaporator fans continued to work. After reading comments on your site about probable causes, I ordered a replacement (main) thermostat. However, as it looked different from the original, I called and talked to Yvonne J, one of your customer service reps, who asked me to take and send photos of the old and new thermostats side by side. She called me back to say that the new one was the proper part and she also gave me advice on how to install it (beyond the advice given on your site). Once the thermo was installed, the compressor still didn't start so I called Yvonne again and she consulted with a tech who referred her (and subsequently me) to a short video on how to get a "stuck" start relay working and, thus, to restart the compressor. After doing this, the compressor started right up and, after 11 hours, the temps in both the freezer and refrigerator compartments returned to normal.
